This time of year is always busy. There are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, presents to wrap, parties to attend… the list goes on and on! It’s easy to see how we can get so preoccupied with our to-do list that we can forget about the things that really matter. In the spirit of goodwill, here are some very easy ideas about how to give back this holiday season.
1. Donate money to a charity in someone’s name
There are so many charities – local, national, and international – that need donations year round, and the holiday season is a great time to give. If you have a friend or family member that is impossible to buy for, making a donation in their name to a charity they support is a great way to show you care for them and make a difference in the world.
2. Shop local
Our local businesses improve the local economy and encourage unique shopping experiences in our hometown. Plus, it’s always great to know the person who made your gift with their own hands. Huntsville has its fair share of extremely talented artisans and small businesses to pick up some gifts from, many of which are located on Campus! Candles, jewelry, and bath bombs from Fringe Salon would make great stocking stuffers, and no beer lover would say no to a gift card, bomber, or swag from Yellowhammer, Straight to Ale, Lone Goose, or Rock ‘n’ Roll Sushi!
3. Contribute to a Community Drive
Collecting canned goods, coats, and toys is so easy and so helpful for those in need. Many times, these boxes are located in a place you’re already headed to anyway, so you don’t even have to go out of your way to be a good samaritan! Right now on Campus, we are collecting coats, socks, toys, games, toiletries, and canned goods in collaboration with Manna House, the HEALS Clinic, and United Way. Donation boxes are located at Straight To Ale, Yellowhammer, Lone Goose Saloon, Fringe Hair Salon, Rock ‘n’ Roll Sushi, Earth and Stone Wood Fired Pizza, and the Stone Event Center.
Giving back this holiday season doesn’t have to be difficult, and contributing to the welfare of our community is one of the best gifts we can give! Make sure you stop by our community drive by the 19th of December to make a difference, and happy holidays!
